How to Create Happiness

We all want to be seen, to feel heard, & to have the understanding of the people around us. Sometimes we struggle. Often it is because we don’t feel seen, heard or understood. There is something missing!

Stop & think about what you’re missing…

So did you figure out what you’re missing?

There’s a good chance that you said something that makes you happy. 

So, I think it’s pretty safe to say that we all would like to be happier.

Creating happiness, a how to guide.

Did you know that you have a specific base level of happiness? It’s your happiness set point. This is the level of happiness that is at your default setting. You can get happier but it doesn’t last very long. You can drop below that set point & get sad, but again not forever.

So we look for happiness. I looked in food, alcohol, & other people for my happiness. But – not surprisingly – I only found temporary happiness.

What if you could change your happiness set point? (You can!) Would you do the deep diving into your story?

By doing the internal work, by changing the way that you look at life, you create happiness. You give your happiness set point a chance to rise with every healing journey that you go on.

Creating a new me

My healing journey is ongoing because life still happens. Life is unexpected & wonderful but it’s also tricky & messy. The important thing to remember is that this is a journey & we need to enjoy the fuck out of it!

I learned to live with intention. To find my why & let that lead me. Once I discovered that by living with intention I could be happier, I jumped on board. I can live with intention. I can be intentional!

Looking for happiness in all the right places

There are two types of happiness Hedonic & Eudaimonic. Hedonic is the quick fix happiness (a new car, winning something, getting a raise) these things spike our happiness but it doesn’t last.

Eudaimonic happiness is the key in raising your happiness set point. These are our core happiness events that elevate our lives. Finding things that make us happy overall, like a new hobby, hitting a milestone in your life by acknowledging your accomplishments, or doing shadow work/soul searching, are the things that will raise our happiness set point.

Think about it this way…

Eating chocolates make make you feel happy, but once is it gone…. it’s done. That is hedonic happiness. But learning to make chocolates gives you a new skill & brings up your basic level of happiness. That is eudaimonic happiness.

So anything that brings lasting happiness will raise your happiness set point, but these things take work, time & patience. Also, raising your happiness set point doesn’t guarantee happiness. It simply makes it possible to be even happier overall.

Affirmations & Happiness

Learning to write your own affirmations is a skill that can bring your happiness set point up & increase your eudaimonic happiness. Affirmations are phrases that brings your future into the present. They are wonderful little shortcuts to happiness and reaching your goals.

Writing your own affirmations isn’t hard & allows you to make them personalized. A personalized affirmation will resonate with your soul in a different way. You could say prewritten affirmations that mean something to you but when you learn to write your own, the world is open for you to achieve all your dream & goals.
