When You Fall into Old Habits

So, you are doing all the things – dieting, exercising, keeping a positive mindset. But you find yourself suddenly falling into old habits – snacking, eating too much or too little, skipping your joyful movement, letting the voice in your head bring you down. Then, all that hard work that you put in is reversed. You have gained weight!

Diet culture making you sad?

Yikes!!!

This is a hard, yet, possible outcome of trying to lose weight. Many people try and (most) fail. But why?

There are many reasons to fail at dieting. First, diet culture is everywhere. They say you need to follow the latest fad diet to lose weight. This is a lie! South Beach diet, cabbage soup diet, Atkins/keto diet, Weight Watchers, Beachbody… these are fad diets. They are hard to maintain and for good reason – they are not listening to what your body needs and wants.

I am not opposed to using a low calorie diet to jumpstart weight loss. Sometimes we need a week or two of focused food consumption to restart our weight loss. But, these fad diets don’t work! They are too restrictive and honestly complicate your life.

Sticking to healthy options most of the time and adding joyful movement into your life is a way to maintain your goals to lose weight. But, wait…

What if your goal wasn’t to lose weight, but to love yourself.

You might scoff at this idea because your doctor said that you must lose weight to be considered healthy? I am going to let you into a little secret, even doctors fall into diet culture.

There are many people that are technically overweight, but living a healthy life with healthy food options and joyful movement. Is this okay? Can you be over 200 pounds and be healthy and happy. The answer is YES!
