Why happiness?

You may be asking why should I care about happiness… my life is just fine, thank you very much!

Happiness isn’t about being happy and positive all the time. You are not a robot, programmable to be a happiness clone.

It’s not easy to change the way we think about emotions, but it’s vital. Especially if you’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not okay to be sad, angry, or upset. This is what I’ve seen in society, we reward happiness, we tell people to fake it, and all other emotions are unwelcome.

My own philosophy of happiness was to fake it until you make it, but I was wrong! (Oh, that’s another taboo thing to admit.) By faking your happiness, you are neglecting your feelings and robbing yourself of a chance to be truly happy.

It is importantly allow yourself to feel your feelings and be in the moment with them. If something makes you feel, then feel! Don’t compartmentalize your feelings to deal with them at a later time. Don’t shut down and turn into a happiness drone. Feel those feeling!

I can’t stress this enough, cry when your sad… get good and mad… do yourself a favor and feel.

I must take a moment to make clear that I am not promoting acting on our emotions, especially in violent or harmful ways.

True happiness isn’t hard to reach, when you stop fighting with yourself.
